A favorite of ours since college days in the 1970s, Hillside has barely changed a single thing. Every visit is still a delight. Filled with locals and students, hillside has a bavarian hunting lodge feel.
This is my absolute favorite restaurant! When I lived in Illinois I used to go here with my family and order "chicken fingers the old way". The food here is excellent and the atmosphere is calm and very beautiful. I always have positive experiences with the owners and the staff. Whenever I fly back put to Illinois I always make sure I eat here. I highly recommend you try this restaurant for yourself!

My son and I had Thanksgiving dinner. It included turkey , dressing, sweet potato and butternut squash, choice of soup or salad served with two types of delicious bread. Ordered pumpkin pie for dessert that tasted homemade with just the right spices. It was very crowded so lots of folks enjoyed!
If I could give ZERO stars I would as that is what this dump deserves...walk in the door and you're hit with a smell of mildew and mold...the bathroom (I guess that's what it was...an outhouse?) is disgusting. The berating of wait staff within earshot of patrons...outrageous and absolutely uncalled for. Ask for separate checks...ah no because apparently the owner has a problem with addition and it would seem much more than that...you're greeted with rudeness by an old woman, the owner??? I would not recommend this place to anyone as there is no charm, only old and smelly!
