I arrived at 9:40 on a Saturday morning. Very long wait, not enough help behind the counter. There were at times two people helping customers, but for most of the time there was only one. When you walk in the door your need to take a number and will be called up in order. This is for Driver License service only, If you are getting a plate sticker or title work for your car you go to a separate line. That line was also very long with only person behind that counter. For some reason, the State believes that if you are a commercial driver with a CDL license, you should get service before anyone else. That is; those drivers are instructed to go to the "head of the line" are are serviced without waiting. This seems unfair. Once my number was called after waiting for over an hour, the man who helped me was polite and helpful. I forgot my renewal papers but that was no issue. He took my info, gave me a vision test, took my payment, and my photo. I then had my new license 5 minutes later. Total time once my number was called was about ten minutes.
Early morning line wasn't bad to handle title transfer work. Didn't do the driver's license there.
The staff was expectedly straightfaced to start the morning. Everything was relatively fine though.
Note: not long after I arrived, a customer walked in and asked a question I could not hear, but the answer was, " All the on road driving test for the day are full, you will have to come back another day." They close at noon, so that means they must have had a lot of folks "booked" for the drive test or they just were not giving them. I have used this facility many times before had have preferred it to the Elgin site, I have never seen so few State employees there before. I guess it could be part of the Illinois budget cuts.
Easily the worst DMV anywhere. Rude and heavily understaffed, horrible parking, small building.....You're better off going to the DMV in Rockford or somewhere else. Seriously, don't come here. Go somewhere else. It's worth the drive.
Just another government agency with over paid and over benefited employees. The wrong venue I know but why give ILLEGALS a temporary license. Why is it a temporary when they stay for life?
Horrible service, what else could you expect from a forced agency with no accountability.
No VISA accepted. Still waiting to go in, but I had to lose my place in line when I saw a sign inside the door that says "No Visa" for payment options. It would've been nice to have that listed on their website.
